Adaptyv raises $40m Series A led by Highland Europe for automated protein-testing labs

The Lausanne company plans to roughly triple lab capacity by the end of 2026, open a London lab and grow its team from 25 to about 60.

Adaptyv, a Swiss company that runs an automated wet lab to test newly designed proteins, raised a $40m Series A led by Highland Europe, it announced on 26 August 2026. Existing investors Ace Ventures, ByFounders and Y Combinator doubled down.

The company said the money will fund a roughly threefold increase in lab capacity by the end of 2026, a new lab and office in London in the fourth quarter, and expansion in Lausanne. No valuation was disclosed.

Startupticker dated its article 26 August 2026. The company, which is based in the Lausanne area, did not disclose revenue.

What Adaptyv does

Adaptyv gives AI-driven drug-discovery teams a way to find out whether proteins designed on a computer work in the lab. Customers send designs and receive experimental results from automated workcells. Startupticker described the company as building the automated lab for agentic biology, and said the founders' endpoint is what they call a biological gigafactory.

More than 100 customers have been onboarded over the past year, including Chai Discovery, Boltz, Roche and Novo Nordisk, along with dozens of AI-driven drug-discovery startups. The company says lab throughput is up more than five times over the past year. Both figures are the company's own.

Pulse 2 described the labs as places where AI agents can run whole experiment cycles: design, physical testing, review of results and refinement. It said the company demonstrated its service with Anthropic, in which Claude designed proteins that were then sent to Adaptyv's lab for testing. Adaptyv's stated long-term goal is high-throughput experimental infrastructure that can keep pace with increasingly autonomous AI research systems.

What the money is for

Startupticker reported two lines of expansion. The first is horizontal: replicating its automated workcells to roughly triple capacity by the end of 2026 and keep growing through 2027, with the London lab and office opening in the fourth quarter alongside the Lausanne expansion.

The second is vertical, moving from measuring how well proteins bind into developability and biophysical characterisation, then into newer drug types such as peptides, antibody-drug conjugates and degraders, and eventually cell-based function tests.

The team is to grow from 25 to about 60 people, focused on production, automation and software.

Pulse 2 said the company plans to double its team in Lausanne. Startupticker put the planned headcount at about 60 by the time the expansion is complete.

Who invested

Highland Europe led the round. Ace Ventures, ByFounders and Y Combinator, all existing backers, took part. Neither report named individual partners or carried quotes from the company or its investors.

The founders were referred to but not named in the articles opened for this piece.

The funding so far

A related Startupticker headline, dated 19 September 2025, refers to an $8m seed round. The sources opened do not give the lead investor or the exact timing of that round, so this article does not state them.

Adding the seed to the Series A gives about $48m, but the company's own total was not stated. Adaptyv is based at Biopole in the Lausanne area, according to Startupticker.
