AGent Energy, a Houston company that connects backup generators to energy markets, closed an $11m seed round co-led by Spero Ventures and MassMutual Ventures, announced on 13 August 2026.
Intrepid Investment Management joined the round, and existing investors CIV and Zero Infinity Partners (ZIP) also took part, according to the company's press release and Pulse 2.0. AGent had raised $6m from CIV and ZIP within two months of its founding, bringing total funding to $17m in its first 12 months. No valuation was disclosed.

What AGent does
AGent runs an AI-based platform that aggregates, orchestrates and monetises distributed generation, mainly backup generators at commercial, industrial and mission-critical sites. The aim is to turn them into dispatchable distributed power plants that can support the grid when it is under stress and earn revenue for their owners.
Pulse 2.0 reported that the company is dispatching capacity in the PJM, MISO and ERCOT markets. It targets commercial and industrial facilities and the sector the company calls MUSH: municipalities, universities, schools and hospitals. The platform serves large energy users, utilities and grid operators, though the release names no customers.
The release says the platform serves large energy users, utilities and grid operators. The 200 GW figure is the company's own estimate of the generation it could unlock, and the sources did not say how much capacity AGent has signed up so far.
The pitch
AGent says there are more than 200 GW of behind-the-meter generation that sit idle most of the time, and that the grid does not need to wait for new generation to be built. Stephen Wemple of Spero Ventures said the grid does not need to wait five years for new steel in the ground.
Aram Ouligian, a senior associate at MassMutual Ventures, said the opportunity fits the firm's Climate Technology Fund: AI applied to real assets, with economics that work from day one.
The two investors' comments focus on speed: Wemple said Hendricks and her team have moved faster than any company Spero has seen in this space.
The team
Stephanie Hendricks is chief executive and co-founder. The release names no other founders and gives no headcount, saying only that the company will aggressively scale its team. Wemple joins the board and Ouligian becomes a board observer.
Hendricks said that twelve months ago AGent was an idea backed by two investors who saw what the founders saw. She said closing $17m in the first year reflects the urgency of the grid reliability challenge.
What the money is for
The company said it will use the funds to grow its team and accelerate its push to unlock 200 GW or more of behind-the-meter generation. Pulse 2.0 described the round as covering AGent's first 12 months, and the sources did not discuss revenue.
