Aston Power, a Raleigh, North Carolina company that builds power supply for data centres, raised $20m in funding announced on 16 June 2026. TDK Ventures and Building Ventures led the round, and JLL Spark Global Ventures and other unnamed investors took part, according to the company's release and TDK Ventures' announcement.

Neither the release nor TDK's announcement labelled the round; this site files it as a Series A. No valuation was disclosed, and neither source reported earlier funding.

What Aston does

Aston was founded in 2022 and describes a coordinated power delivery platform that works across generation, transmission, firming and delivery infrastructure for industrial and AI projects. TDK Ventures described a modular private power network that combines grid, solar, battery and natural gas resources, orchestrated in real time.

The network targets 99.9% availability at the substation level and deploys in two to three years, against five to ten years for traditional grid interconnection, according to TDK Ventures. The company reports a pipeline of about 2 gigawatts, with initial campuses in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. These are company claims.

Aston says utilities are increasingly asking large customers to bring their own power, a trend it says its approach addresses.

Who invested

TDK Ventures was founded in 2019 as a wholly owned subsidiary of TDK Corporation and invests in materials science and energy among other areas. JLL Spark Global Ventures is the corporate venture arm of JLL, founded in 2017, and the release says it has invested more than $445m since June 2018 in more than 55 early-stage startups. Building Ventures is a venture firm focused on early-stage startups that reshape the built environment.

Nicolas Sauvage, president of TDK Ventures, said, "The AI boom is pushing the current grid paradigm to the brink." He said TDK invested because Aston provides the hard trifecta of hyperscalers' demand, and that the company is building a venture-scalable network rather than one-off projects.

What the money is for

Aston said it will scale operations, expand its geographic footprint and deliver its total power solution to more projects. TDK's announcement said the partnership will help Aston reach mass production but gave no breakdown of spending.

Greg Robinson, co-founder and chief executive, said AI is changing infrastructure requirements faster than the traditional power industry can keep up. David Delfassy, investment director at TDK Ventures, said what stood out was Aston's focus on solving coordination and deployment challenges.

Other voices and gaps

Jesse Devitte, co-founder and general partner at Building Ventures, said the future of data centre development will increasingly hinge on access to sufficient reliable power. Ajey Kaushal, principal at JLL Spark Global Ventures, called the power crisis facing large industrial demand the defining infrastructure challenge of this era.

The sources did not give a headcount or name customers. Greg Robinson is the only founder named.
