“Clinical trial delays and inefficiencies cost time, money, and ultimately lives.”Pedro Coelho, CEO, Biorce
What Biorce does
Biorce's product is Aika, which the company describes as an AI-native operating system for clinical trials. It covers trial design, feasibility and regulatory planning, and can generate core documents such as protocols, investigator brochures and informed consent forms, according to the company's website. Capital Riesgo said it also supports decisions from patient selection to hospital choice.
Tech.eu reported that Aika is built on about one million clinical trials, is not tied to a particular therapy, and is already used in oncology, neurology and rare diseases. Its users are pharmaceutical companies, biotech firms and contract research organisations. The website claims cost reductions of 60%, workflows 70% faster and 50% fewer protocol amendments, but gives no supporting data. Chief executive Pedro Coelho told Capital Riesgo that Aika cuts by half the time spent preparing and processing the paperwork.
Team and customers
Capital Riesgo said Biorce was founded in 2024 in Barcelona by four Portuguese founders: Coelho, Clara Bernardes, José Faria and Diogo Pisoeiro. It also has offices in New York, London and Lisbon. The company had 60 employees last year and expects to reach 250 by the end of this year, with new hires split evenly between Barcelona and Austin, the outlet reported.
The same report said Biorce has close to 50 pharma clients, mainly in the United States. Neither outlet gave a reliable current revenue figure.
What the money is for
The funds will go to expanding Aika's capabilities, growing the team and international expansion, particularly in the United States, where Biorce plans an R&D centre in Austin, Texas, and a larger Barcelona headquarters. Tech.eu said planned additions to the platform include modules for contract management, negotiation, budget planning and operational execution.
Tech.eu put total funding above $60m, while Capital Riesgo said Biorce had raised more than €50m since inception including this round. The sources do not detail earlier rounds.
Coelho said that clinical trial delays and inefficiencies cost time, money and ultimately lives. He also said the round reflects both the scale of the problem and the market's confidence in the company's vision.
