Copy Geek, a Sydney company that makes copy-trading software for cryptocurrency exchanges, has closed an A$2m (about US$1.4m) pre-seed round. The round was led by Dr David Issa and Thomas Boga on behalf of a group of Sydney-based private investors. The company announced the funding on 29 October 2026.

No venture capital firms were named in the round, and the valuation was not disclosed.

“A copy-trading engine has one job, which is to copy your trades.”Chris Ji, Founder, Copy Geek

What Copy Geek does

Copy trading lets one user automatically repeat the trades of another, usually more experienced, trader. Copy Geek's engine is non-custodial, meaning it does not hold users' money. It connects to each exchange's existing accounts, software interfaces and order books, so exchanges do not need to build or host extra systems, and copied trades settle on the exchange where the follower has an account.

The software is live on Bitfinex, WhiteBIT, Bybit and Hyperliquid. Startup Daily reported that Copy Geek pitches the product to exchanges as a way to attract funded traders, raise trading volumes and lower the cost of winning customers.

Founder Chris Ji said the job of a copy-trading engine is to copy not just the order but also the result. The company's release states that the copy-trading service is intended for participants in Copy Geek's scholarship programme, that trading can lead to the total loss of capital and that returns are not guaranteed.

Ji told SmartCompany the engine is built to watch every fill and every execution and keep each follower in sync with the trader they copy. That matters because a copied trade that fills at a different price, or not at all, can leave a follower with a different result from the trader they chose to follow.

Who is behind it

Chris Ji, a trader on Bitfinex, founded Copy Geek in June 2026, according to Startup Daily. Adrian Tadros, who has more than two decades of experience at cloud providers, consulting firms and financial institutions, is a technology adviser.

Lead investor Dr David Issa said Copy Geek had built the kind of reliable, user-focused infrastructure needed to open these markets to more people. The company has not disclosed users, trading volumes or revenue.

Issa also told SmartCompany that the team combines deep trading expertise with a vision of selling to enterprises. SmartCompany listed Copy Geek among four Australian start-ups that raised money in the last week of October.

What the money is for

Copy Geek will use the funding for product development, to hire more engineers and to sign more exchange partnerships. SmartCompany described the product as a customer acquisition tool for the exchanges that adopt it.

The company is betting that exchanges would rather plug in an outside copy-trading engine than build and host one themselves. It did not say how many more exchanges it plans to add or when.
