Kontempo, a Mexican fintech that helps industrial suppliers sell to business customers on credit, has raised a $10.5m Series A round in equity. Portage and IGNIA co-led the round, which was announced on 6 October 2026, according to LatamFintech.

Tectonic and MS&AD also took part, along with other investors who were not named. Kontempo said its total funding now exceeds $40m in debt and equity combined. The company did not disclose a valuation.

What Kontempo does

Kontempo combines data, AI and financial infrastructure so that suppliers and distributors can offer their buyers payment terms and manage trade credit. Suppliers can run credit from their own balance sheet or use financing and risk protection that Kontempo provides through its platform.

Its risk models assess buyers, set credit limits and support faster credit decisions. AI tools automate portfolio management, collections and reconciliation, including matching incoming payments to invoices and deciding which collections to prioritise.

Customers and partners named by the company include Cemex and its Construrama network, Ternium, Comex, Frisa and Amcor/Bemis. It works with companies in building materials, steel, coatings, chemicals, packaging, auto parts and food manufacturing. Kontempo said it has processed more than $180m in payment volume across more than 50,000 transactions since launch, and expects that in 2027 alone it will extend more credit than it has in total since launch.

What the money is for

Kontempo said the funds will go to its product roadmap, including credit assessment and financing from its own funds, as well as AI-based operating tools and data infrastructure. It also plans to keep growing among industrial suppliers and business distributors in Mexico, and to cover the whole trade-credit process, from the decision to offer payment terms through to payment and reconciliation of the invoice.

Founder and chief executive Matthew Meehan said the company's aim is for Kontempo to become the network of trust, the system of record and the intelligence layer for industrial credit. Ricky Lai, a general partner at Portage, said trade credit is fundamental to the industrial economy but remains one of its least modernised processes.

The funding so far

Kontempo arrived in Mexico in 2022 with a buy-now-pay-later offer for business purchases. In August 2022, Electronic Payments International reported that it had raised more than $30m in seed funding, made up of $6.5m in equity and $25m in debt. Portage led that round, with Scor P&C Ventures, Upper90, Asymmetric Capital Partners, Tectonic Ventures and IGNIA also taking part.

At the time, the company offered business buyers interest-free payment plans over 30, 60 or 90 days and said it had signed 26 merchant partners in Mexico. It has since shifted its focus to software and financing for industrial suppliers' own trade credit. Kontempo's website says it has been offering technology and financing to companies since 2021.
