Numeral, a San Francisco company that automates sales tax compliance for businesses, raised $100m in a Series C round led by Insight Partners, it announced on 23 September 2026.

Salesforce Ventures, Geodesic, Benchmark, Mayfield, FCVC, Y Combinator and Uncork Capital also took part, according to the company and its law firm, Cooley, which advised Numeral on the deal.

The round brings Numeral's total funding to $157m, according to The Next Web. The company did not disclose its valuation. The raise came about a year after a $35m Series B in September 2025.

“Sales tax has become a much bigger operational challenge as companies grow across markets, systems and business models.”Sam Ross, Co-founder and CEO, Numeral

What Numeral does

Founded in 2023 by chief executive Sam Ross and chief technology officer Matt DuVall, Numeral sells software that handles the sales tax process from end to end. It tracks where a business has crossed the thresholds that create a tax obligation, registers it with tax authorities, calculates rates, files returns, remits payments and manages exemption certificates.

The company also supports VAT and GST compliance in more than 90 countries and connects to more than 40 billing, finance and ERP systems. Its product pairs a rules-based tax engine with AI and automation, and customers can reach in-house tax specialists for complex cases. It also runs a programme for accounting firms that refer, resell or implement the software.

"Sales tax has become a much bigger operational challenge as companies grow across markets, systems and business models," Ross said.

Growth and investors

Numeral said total transaction volume on its platform rose 327% from a year earlier and that it expects its tax engine to process more than 80 million transactions. It reported a sharp increase in customers in software, distribution and manufacturing but did not give a customer count or revenue.

The company also said customers can cut the time spent on filings and registrations by up to 80%, and that 30% to 40% of the exemption certificates customers bring to the platform fail validation, according to The Next Web.

Insight Partners, which CPA Practice Advisor described as a global software investor, led the round. Benchmark, Uncork Capital, Y Combinator, FCVC and Mayfield were already investors, as was Mantis, according to the same report.

Rebecca Liu-Doyle, a managing director at Insight Partners, said sales tax was something businesses had to get right and that its complexity was increasing. Arvind Ayyala, a partner at Geodesic Capital, said Numeral combined tax expertise with AI-based infrastructure to deliver compliance as an outcome rather than as a tool.

What the money is for

Numeral said it would use the funding to speed up product development, expand its offering for the software, manufacturing, distribution and wholesale industries, and hire across engineering, sales, marketing and product.

Those sectors face rising tax complexity. The Next Web noted that California has enacted a law extending sales and use tax to prewritten software, including software-as-a-service and remotely accessed software, from 2027.

Numeral did not say how many people it employs.
