Prenosis, a Chicago health technology company that uses AI to develop diagnostics and treatments for acute illness, announced a $20m Series A round on 29 January 2026. PACE Healthcare Capital led the round, with participation from Labcorp Venture Fund and Carle Health.

The company announced a second $20m at the same time, but it is not equity. It is a federal contract from the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, known as BARDA, awarded under the Type to Treat Program. HIT Consultant headlined the two together as a $40m raise. This article counts only the $20m Series A as the round. No valuation was disclosed.

“we are well-positioned to advance the development of biology-driven solutions that can transform outcomes”Bobby Reddy, Jr., PhD, CEO, Prenosis

What Prenosis does

Prenosis's first commercial product is Sepsis ImmunoScore, which it describes as the first AI diagnostic for sepsis to receive FDA authorisation. It combines biological markers with clinical data to assess a patient's risk of sepsis. The company's website calls its AI software the Immunix platform, and says it runs a biobank of more than 140,000 biospecimens from over 35,000 patients.

Bobby Reddy Jr. is the chief executive and a co-founder. A profile by the Grainger College of Engineering at the University of Illinois said he earned his doctorate there in 2012 and built a point-of-care device that measured cell biomarkers from blood with Rashid Bashir, now the college's dean. The company later pivoted from devices to data. Reddy said of the original device: "It was a cool technology, but the market wasn't there, so we chose to pivot." Over about ten years it built what he described as one of the world's largest immune biobanks for sepsis and other hospital conditions.

The Grainger profile said Prenosis has partnered with Roche to bring Sepsis ImmunoScore to market and plans to expand into pneumonia, acute heart failure and acute kidney injury. The sources do not give a founding year or a headcount.

What the money is for

The Series A pays for the commercial rollout of Sepsis ImmunoScore into hospital workflows, according to HIT Consultant.

The BARDA contract has a separate purpose. It funds a randomised controlled trial of 800 patients with severe respiratory infections, including pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome. The trial will test an AI companion diagnostic that predicts which patients may benefit from corticosteroids. Prenosis also plans to take Immunix to as many as 40 US academic medical centres to build a precision-medicine clinical trial network.

Reddy said that because of these investments, the company is well positioned to advance the development of biology-driven solutions that can transform outcomes.

Who invested

The Grainger profile listed further Series A investors beyond those named in the announcement: UC Investments, UCI Health Ventures, GHIC and DCEO. The sources do not say how much each investor contributed.

Neither HIT Consultant nor the other reports describe any earlier funding for Prenosis.
