“From day one, we have focused on security, data sovereignty, and compliance.”Mattias Protzmann, Co-Founder and CTO, Blockbrain
What Blockbrain does
Blockbrain was founded in 2022 by Antonius Gress, a former Bosch employee, Mattias Protzmann, a serial entrepreneur who co-founded Statista, and Nam Hai Ngo, an Antler and WHU alumnus. Gress is chief executive and Protzmann is chief technology officer.
Its main product is what it calls Knowledge Bots, described by the company as digital twins of expert knowledge that capture a firm's know-how, processes and decision logic. Blockbrain says such a bot can be built in a few weeks without complex programming. The platform works across several language models, which the company says avoids vendor lock-in.
The company says the platform complies with GDPR, holds ISO 27001 certification and is ready for the EU AI Act. It also cited a benchmark run by Giesecke+Devrient, one of its investors, in which Blockbrain scored 92 of 105 points. The next-best of six providers tested scored 58.
Customers
The company named Roland Berger, Bosch and Bosch Rexroth, Kärcher, fischer, Harting, Eberspächer, Bardehle Pagenberg, CHG-MERIDIAN, Domcura and Seifert Logistics Group among its customers. Axel Frey, chief executive of Seifert Logistics, reported weekly time savings of up to 15 percent from his own digital twin.
Blockbrain aims at industries where data protection matters. Protzmann said the company's focus has been on security from the start.
Blockbrain says it is aimed at security-sensitive and regulated industries, where companies are cautious about where their data goes. The Giesecke+Devrient benchmark was run by one of its own investors, so readers should weigh the result accordingly.
What the money is for
Blockbrain plans to put the funds into further security, compliance and governance features. It also plans a fallback mechanism that switches between AI models to keep answers available, along with agent and research workflows that automate the building of knowledge bases.
The company will hire what it calls Forward-Deployed AI Engineers, who support customers remotely or on site, and it will expand in the EU and the UK.
Benjamin Kleinschnitz of Alstin Capital said Blockbrain makes internal knowledge from documents and team expertise quickly usable without complex programming and in line with GDPR. Meera Bissoondeeal of 13books Capital said her firm sees Blockbrain shaping responsible AI in critical and regulated sectors.
The investors
Alstin Capital was founded in 2012 and typically makes initial investments of €2m to €8m, according to the press release. 13books Capital invests in fintech companies from seed to Series A.
