What Flip does
Flip's platform answers and resolves inbound phone calls for brands in retail, healthcare and transportation, connecting to the back-end systems human agents use. Pulse 2.0 reported that it was founded in 2018 by Brian Schiff, co-founder and chief executive, and Sam Krut, co-founder and chief revenue officer.
Crunchbase News reported that Flip charges per automated call, with no upfront cost or long-term commitment. Schiff said the company has eight-figure annual recurring revenue, growing threefold year over year. That figure is his statement and was not verified independently.
AlleyWatch reported that Schiff and Krut first built a ride-hailing app while studying at Cornell, and that the company rebranded as FlipCX in 2022. Crunchbase News said the two met in college about a decade ago.
Customers and scale
Pulse 2.0 reported that Flip has handled more than 300 million calls and now processes about 20 million a month for roughly 250 brands across North America, the UK, and Australia and New Zealand. Crunchbase News said it has hundreds of enterprise customers, including Under Armour, Tory Burch and Newell Brands.
Pulse 2.0 also named Experity, a healthcare software company, and iCabbi, a Groupe Renault subsidiary pursuing a white-label relationship. The company claims more than 60% market adoption in transportation, its first market.
Schiff argued that vertical players such as Flip "come ready 'out-of-the-box' with everything brands in that industry need built in."
Pulse 2.0 said the company's growth has been helped by its expansion into healthcare, and that it is an early category leader in retail and e-commerce. Crunchbase News quoted Schiff saying Flip's AI "is battle-tested on more than 300 million phone calls."
What the money is for
Flip said it will accelerate product development and expand engineering and go-to-market teams in New York, Los Angeles and the UK. The sources do not give its headcount.
Who invested
Alex Rosen, managing partner at Ridge Ventures, said: "Flip is the clear category leader delivering measurable value today." Mike Smerklo, co-founder and managing director at Next Coast Ventures, said he had never seen a more compelling return on investment for customers.
Stuart Benzal, vice president of client services at Tory Burch, said in the announcement that Flip delivered real business impact after the retailer tried other vendors.
Rosen also told Crunchbase News that Flip "has quietly, up to now, launched more live customer deployments, at scale, than anyone." These are investors' opinions of a company they have funded.
