Moment, a Cape Town payments company, raised a $22m Series A led by AlphaCode Venture Partners, announced on 4 August 2026. General Catalyst and MultiChoice, existing backers, took part, and Canal+, which now owns MultiChoice, invested for the first time.
FinTech Global also listed Entrée Capital, the Raba Partnership and Helios Investment Partners as backers. Moment said total funding since launch is $55m. No valuation was disclosed.

What Moment does
Moment offers enterprise merchants tools to collect payments and keep revenue, covering cards, bank transfers, mobile money and recurring payments, according to FinTech Global and Condia. It lets merchants accept locally preferred payment methods.
The company says it processes payments for 10 million people a month and handles about 600,000 transactions a day. FinTech Global reported an in-person collection network covering more than two million sites. Chief executive Joel Yarbrough told BusinessDay that within three years of launch the company is processing for 10 million people a month across some of Africa's leading brands.
Condia noted that the platform was first built to power MultiChoice's payments and has since expanded beyond pay-TV, and that it is unclear what share of volume still comes from MultiChoice-affiliated businesses.
Condia reported that Canal+ completed its acquisition of MultiChoice in 2025 and describes the round as Canal+'s first direct investment in Moment. BusinessDay converted the round to about R361.8m and the total raised to more than R900m.
Where it came from
Moment was launched in 2023 by MultiChoice, Rapyd and General Catalyst, according to Condia. BusinessDay said MultiChoice unveiled it as a division in May 2023, and described the platform as initially billed as a joint venture with Rapyd.
Canal+ completed its acquisition of MultiChoice in 2025 and told Condia that Moment has already reduced MultiChoice's payment processing costs. Thomas Follin, chief diversification officer at Canal+, said Moment has driven down cost and improved quality simultaneously.
Who invested
Dominique Collett, a general partner at AlphaCode Venture Partners, said Africa's payment complexity has long been a hidden tax on commerce. FinTech Global quoted her saying Moment is dismantling that barrier in a way not seen before, at continental scale and compliantly.
Yarbrough said the platform is highly resilient, processing 600,000 transactions a day despite power and connectivity challenges.
What the money is for
Moment said the funds will strengthen its network, upgrade platform capabilities and expand into new African markets. Condia reported that it currently serves businesses and consumers in South Africa and that the new markets were not named.
The sources did not report founders by name, an employee count or the size of earlier rounds.
Yarbrough has said the platform is built to work reliably in markets where power and connectivity are unreliable, a point he made when describing the 600,000 daily transactions.
