Muon Space, a Mountain View company that designs and builds satellites, closed an oversubscribed $250m Series C on 20 August 2026. Eclipse Capital led the round, and total equity funding now exceeds $386m.

New investors were Galvanize, Google, Salesforce Ventures, Wellington Management, I Squared Capital and Woven Capital. Radical Ventures, Congruent Ventures, Costanoa Ventures, Activate Capital, ACME Capital, ArcTern Ventures and Overlap Holdings, all existing investors, also took part. Muon did not publish a valuation.

What Muon does

Muon was founded in 2021 and builds satellites and large constellations for commercial, government and international sovereign customers. Its work includes Vindler 2.0, an RF data and analytics constellation for SNC that is due to launch this year, and FireSat, a wildfire-monitoring constellation it is building with the Earth Fire Alliance and Google.org.

The company says it has deployed 11 satellites across six launches, seven of them in the first half of 2026, with a 100% mission success record. More than 50 satellites are in development, 13 of them manifested for launch within the next year. These are company figures.

Muon is headquartered in Mountain View, California, with production facilities in Silicon Valley, and the San Jose factory is where it plans to scale output. The company's launch record includes seven satellites launched in the first half of 2026 alone.

What the money is for

Muon said the funds will scale production of large constellations, expand its dual-use spacecraft platforms and pay for advanced payloads, on-orbit AI compute and high-bandwidth connectivity with SpaceX Starlink.

A factory in San Jose is designed to build up to 500 satellites a year by 2027, a tenfold increase over prior capacity, according to the company.

Gregory Smirin, Muon's president, told Payload that the company's pipeline is well above $10bn. He said the same platform scales in a modular way into what could become a full data centre in orbit.

Muon also said the investment will meet demand for its dual-use spacecraft platforms, which are designed to serve both commercial and government buyers, and for payloads that include on-orbit AI compute.

Who invested

Lior Susan, founder and chief executive of Eclipse, said Muon is redefining how space infrastructure is built. Jonny Dyer, Muon's chief executive, said space infrastructure needs to scale the way cloud infrastructure did.

Payload said the total equity raised before this round is not itemised, so earlier rounds can only be inferred from the $386m total. Muon did not disclose its headcount.

The market

Smirin told Payload: "I don't think any of us have seen a market that is as active as we're seeing today." He added that Muon is conservative about what it counts in its pipeline.

The company said the round will help it meet demand from commercial, government and international sovereign customers.

Payload put the equity raised before this round at roughly $136m, though that figure is an inference from the total, not a number Muon published.
