Pennylane, a Paris-based accounting and finance platform for small businesses and their accountants, raised €175m (about $204m), according to reports dated 20 to 23 January 2026. TCV led the round, and Blackstone Growth took part alongside existing investors Sequoia Capital, DST Global, CapitalG and Meritech Capital.

Vestbee called the round a Series E, while the other pages reviewed did not name a stage, so the stage label is not settled here. Pennylane's own announcement was not among the pages reviewed. Le Monde du Droit, reporting on the law firm FTPA's work for Pennylane, said the round limited dilution to about 5% of the capital.

The valuation

The company has not been quoted on a valuation in the sources reviewed. Accounting Today, citing a person familiar with the matter and Bloomberg's reporting, put it at about $4.25bn. Cryptonomist also described it as reported and gave the same dollar figure. Because the number comes from unnamed sources, it is treated here as a media report rather than a company disclosure.

What Pennylane does

Pennylane was founded in 2020. Vestbee described a platform that centralises accounting and financial management, covering invoicing, payments, expenses, cash flow, bookkeeping, tax filings and reporting, with AI features. Arthur Waller is co-founder and chief executive.

Le Monde du Droit gave a fuller picture: more than 6,000 partner accounting firms, more than 800,000 client companies, more than €115m in annual recurring revenue and nearly 1,000 staff, on a trajectory close to profitability. Cryptonomist said the platform is used by thousands of accounting firms and hundreds of thousands of businesses across several European markets and describes its core product as a financial operating system for small and mid-sized businesses and their accountants. Accounting Today said it competes with Intuit, Xero and newer entrants and has recently entered Germany. The ARR and headcount figures come from a law-firm deal report and are not confirmed by the company in the pages reviewed.

What the money is for

Vestbee reported that the funds will go to expanding in Europe, research and development on AI tools for accountants, and upgrading payments, cash management and e-invoicing. Accounting Today added that the research work includes AI assistants that help accountants analyse data, and adapting the product to German rules and regulations.

Cryptonomist said Pennylane also wants to be ready for what it called a coming wave of consolidation in European financial software. Le Monde du Droit likewise said the money would speed up product investment, notably in AI, and help the company anticipate consolidation in the European market in the context of electronic invoicing.

Who invested

Waller told Accounting Today that the company had "no immediate need for funding", but that the chance to partner with investors such as TCV and Blackstone was attractive. Vestbee quoted him adding that partnering with them at low dilution was a strategic advantage, and that the round gives Pennylane the resources to stay independent while accelerating its lead in AI and expanding across Europe.

Vestbee reported that the founders will keep control of governance and product strategy. The sources reviewed do not give a total raised or list earlier rounds.
