Prelude, a Paris-based startup that sells phone verification and onboarding trust tools, raised a $20m Series A (€17.2m), it announced on 20 May 2026. 20VC led the round, with Singular, Seedcamp, Deel and FDJ Ventures taking part.

Angel investors also joined, among them Steffen Tjerrild of Synthesia, Willem Delbare of Aikido Security, Antoine Le Nel of Revolut, Felix Blossier of Pennylane, George Arison of Grindr and Barney Hussey-Yeo of Cleo, according to InforCapital. Seedcamp said Prelude's total funding now stands at $27m. No valuation was disclosed.

“Telling a real user from a fake one is now a business intelligence problem, not a checkbox.”Matias Berny, Cofounder and CEO, Prelude

What Prelude does

Prelude was founded in 2023 by Matias Berny and Quentin Le Bras, who met at Zenly, the location-sharing app later acquired by Snap. Seedcamp wrote that Berny spent most of his three years there on SMS verification, a task he first thought would take two months and that ended up needing a dedicated team.

The company says up to 30% of SMS verification codes are generated by fraudulent intermediaries, a figure Seedcamp quoted in its post. Prelude's pitch is that legacy providers charge per message sent, so failed codes and resends earn them more, while Prelude charges per successful verification.

Its platform combines telecom data, device intelligence, network signals and behavioural patterns into a single trust profile of each user. Its website lists five products: Verify, Watch, Auth, Intel and Notify, and describes itself as the trust layer between sign-ups and a business.

New products and traction

Alongside the funding, Prelude launched two products. Auth API runs continuous trust checks across the user lifecycle, and Intel API feeds real-time carrier data, such as SIM status and number reputation, into onboarding flows. They join the existing Verify API.

Seedcamp reported that Prelude's revenue and customers each grew sixfold over the past year, and that customers cut verification costs by more than 40%. StartupRise gave the average cost reduction as 40%. Named customers include Suno, BeReal, Voodoo and Sunday, plus a major social media platform that was not named. These are company claims.

What the money is for

InforCapital reported that the Series A will fund global telecom partnerships, wider Intel API coverage across Europe and beyond, machine learning for real-time trust decisions, and growth in engineering, infrastructure and go-to-market teams.

Berny said in the announcement that CAPTCHAs no longer stop bots and a single fraud signal will not show who is really there. He called telling a real user from a fake one a business intelligence problem, not a checkbox.

Investors

Sia Houchangnia of Seedcamp said the firm led Prelude's pre-seed two years earlier and was doubling down in the Series A. Seedcamp argued that legacy providers are structurally misaligned with customers.

Seedcamp also noted the timing of the raise. It cited a projection that bots will make up more internet traffic than humans by 2027, and said AI agents are already getting into sign-up flows while generative tools have made impersonation easier. Those points are the investor's framing of the market rather than independent findings.

The reports did not give the size of the earlier pre-seed round or Prelude's headcount.
