Spektr, a Copenhagen-based startup that builds AI agents for financial compliance, raised a $20m Series A round, announced on 16 April 2026. NEA led the round. Northzone, Seedcamp and PSV Tech, all existing investors, also took part. No valuation was disclosed.

The Next Web put Spektr's total funding at just under $26m. The company was seeded in February 2024, the outlet reported, and it has 45 employees.

What Spektr does

Spektr sells software to banks, fintechs and other regulated businesses for the checks they must run on customers: know-your-customer (KYC) reviews on individuals and know-your-business (KYB) reviews on companies. Its platform deploys networks of specialised AI agents that do the analytical work, including company research, document review, ownership mapping and written risk rationales.

Compliance staff review and approve what the agents produce. According to The Next Web, the platform covers onboarding and ongoing monitoring, source-of-funds checks and the reduction of false positives, and institutions can customise their own workflows. Tech.eu described it as AI infrastructure for compliance in financial services.

FinTech Global reported that the company says its agents cut analyst work that can take hours down to minutes. Crunchbase News said the product, called Spektr 2.0, was launched the previous August with the agent capabilities fully integrated, and that this has driven a surge in customer adoption. It listed Moody's, Fenergo and Pegasystems as established competitors, and said Spektr positions itself one layer deeper by executing the work rather than only managing workflows.

The founders

Crunchbase News said Spektr was founded in summer 2023. Skarnager and co-founder Ciprian Florescu, the chief technology officer, previously built HelloFlow, a digital-onboarding startup launched in 2020 that raised about €1.5m and was sold to the Canadian identity-verification company Trulioo in under two years for more than $50m. The other executives named are Jeremy Joly, chief product officer, and Jan-Erik Aabo Wagner, chief revenue officer.

Customers

The Next Web listed Pleo, Santander Leasing, Mercuryo, Phantom and Monta as customers, plus major US marketplace clients that it did not name. Tech.eu said the target customers are banks and fintechs but did not name any. Spektr did not publish revenue or the number of customers.

What the money is for

The company said it will expand its engineering team, speed up adoption among banks and large financial institutions, and open offices in London and New York. Tech.eu summarised the plan as platform development and international expansion.

Pappas told Crunchbase News that, in a market where AI can produce features in bulk, Spektr wins on taste and deep domain expertise. He also praised the founders' cohesion and said the product can coexist with legacy systems during a transition. Crunchbase News said the company called the valuation a significant step up from the seed round, without giving a figure.

Mikkel Skarnager, chief executive and co-founder, argued that the real bottleneck in compliance has always been the work itself, according to The Next Web. Tech.eu quoted him saying that compliance technology has largely concentrated on workflows and on collecting data.

The Next Web, citing Crunchbase News, said NEA partner Luke Pappas led the investment and credits Spektr's taste and domain expertise as its edge.

The funding so far

Neither article itemised earlier rounds, apart from the February 2024 seed, and neither gave a valuation. Northzone, Seedcamp and PSV Tech were already backers before the Series A.

Spektr's own website describes it as a Copenhagen-based platform that uses AI agents and configurable workflows to automate compliance work for regulated businesses, covering KYC and KYB onboarding, monitoring and case operations.
