What Wrtn does

Wrtn's flagship is a platform that gives free access to AI models such as GPT, Claude and Gemini. The Korea Times said much of its revenue comes from AI entertainment content: the OOC platform, launched in North America in May, passed ₩10bn in monthly revenue within three months, and its overseas sales exceed domestic sales. The company also earns revenue from the Crack character chat platform.

Revenue is expected to exceed ₩200bn this year, up from ₩47.1bn last year, according to The Korea Times and FN News.

Digital Today said the company's international revenue has overtaken domestic revenue.

Safety measures

In July the company formed a user committee of experts in AI ethics, philosophy and law. It is also working with the Korea Internet Self-governance Organization on self-regulatory guidelines for AI character chatbots, The Korea Times reported.

Digital Today reported that teenagers make up about 10% of Crack's users, and that the company is considering time limits for teen users, stricter parental consent and lower payment caps. It said the user committee includes experts in AI ethics, philosophy, cognitive science, psychology and law.

What the money is for

Chief executive Lee Se-young said: "We will focus on global expansion and further advance our services to meet market expectations." Lee said the company had established itself as Korea's leading AI service company in the five years since its founding.

The sources do not give a detailed split of the use of funds. Osuke Honda, co-founder and managing partner of Coreline Ventures, described Wrtn as a global phenomenon.

Digital Today said Lee described the aim as becoming a safe and trustworthy AI company, as relayed in the article rather than as a direct quotation.

The funding so far

Cumulative investment is about ₩230bn including this round, both outlets reported, which is roughly $166m. The articles opened did not itemise earlier rounds, name the founders or give a user count or headcount.

The Korea Times converted the round at about $72.23m, and FN News listed the same set of investors, adding Sui Generis Partners to the existing group. Wrtn's platform, which gives free access to third-party models, is separate from its entertainment apps, which carry most of the revenue.
