Bopu Semiconductor (孛璞半导体), a Shanghai silicon photonics company, completed a Series B round of several hundred million yuan, announced on 6 November 2026. Huaying Capital led it, PEDaily and Eastmoney reported. The exact amount was not disclosed.

Kailian Capital, the Shanghai Science and Technology Group IP Fund, Dongnan Wangjia and Shunyi Investment also invested. No valuation was given.

What Bopu does

Eastmoney reported that Bopu was founded in 2022 and is based in Zhangjiang, Shanghai. It focuses on high-speed optical interconnects and optical switching, and offers solutions from chip design to mass production. Its products include silicon photonics transceivers at 400G, 800G and 1.6T, optical switching chips, silicon photonics IP licensing and custom development, wafer-level test equipment and lidar chips.

PEDaily said its silicon photonics chips at 100G and 200G per lane are in volume production. It also develops dynamically reconfigurable optical circuit switch (OCS) systems for AI compute clusters. Eastmoney reported that an 8x8 optical switch chip is in mass production, with larger 128x128 versions in development, and that a 32-port switch prototype is being tested.

Eastmoney reported that single-channel 100G products have shipped to customers and that a single-channel 224Gbps silicon photonics transmission demonstration was shown on the website of the OFC optical conference. Bopu also lists lidar ranging chips based on frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) silicon photonics among its products.

The team and earlier funding

Eastmoney named co-founder and general manager Xing Yufei, who holds a PhD from Ghent University in Belgium, and said the team has more than 35 engineers and researchers, over ten of them PhDs, with core members from Intel, imec and Xanadu. It reported a 2025 round of several hundred million yuan led by Shanghai Guohe Investment.

Eastmoney also said a listed company, Weiteng Electric, announced a joint venture with Bopu-affiliated entities to pursue silicon photonics optical modules.

The company was named a 2026 Shanghai specialised, refined, unique and innovative small and medium-sized enterprise and holds national high-tech enterprise status, Eastmoney said. The Weiteng joint venture is called Jiangsu Weipu Optoelectronic Equipment.

What the money is for

PEDaily listed three uses. The first is to scale up OCS output: expanding wafer capacity and improving packaging and quality systems so the company can deliver in batches within 12 months, and developing larger 64/72 and 128/144 switch matrices. The second is silicon photonics IP licensing and custom development, including co-developing optical engines of 3.2T to 6.4T for near-package and co-packaged optics with customers. The third is building partnerships through open interfaces and validation with network control systems.

Eastmoney's version of the use of funds is slightly different, stressing research on switching chips, next-generation high-speed optical transceiver chips and optical engines for chip-level optical interconnect.

The sources do not report revenue or give a precise amount for the round, so the scale of the financing can only be described as hundreds of millions of yuan.
