Malachyte, a New York company that builds behaviour intelligence infrastructure for online retailers, raised a $10m seed round co-led by Bessemer Venture Partners and Gradient Ventures. Harpoon Ventures also took part, according to the company's blog post and AlleyWatch's funding report of 6 August 2026.

No valuation was disclosed. The company's post did not say how the money will be spent.

“We started Malachyte because too many AI systems reduce people to clicks and cohorts.”Sidd Motwani, Co-founder and CEO, Malachyte

What Malachyte does

Malachyte describes its product as behaviour intelligence infrastructure. It reads live shopper behaviour and uses it to power search, product discovery, recommendations and product pages for e-commerce brands, including in the cold-start case where a shopper or product has no history.

The company claims sub-200 millisecond serving latency, tens of millions of queries per second and minute-level parameter synchronisation, and says it handles cold starts through what it calls representation fusion in seconds. These are the company's own performance claims and were not independently tested.

AlleyWatch described the product as real-time personalisation for e-commerce brands.

The company's announcement is framed around the cold-start problem in retail, the situation in which a shopper or a product is new and a system has no past behaviour to learn from. Malachyte says its models fuse representations of shoppers and products in seconds to cope with that.

AlleyWatch listed Malachyte among the day's funding rounds, describing it as a platform for real-time personalisation for e-commerce brands.

Who is behind it

Sidd Motwani is co-founder and chief executive, Ian Anderson is a co-founder and Shivaditya Sinha is co-founder and chief operating officer. Motwani and Anderson spent about a decade at Spotify working on personalisation, according to the post. AlleyWatch gave the founding year as 2024.

Motwani wrote that the company started because too many AI systems reduce people to clicks and cohorts.

The post names the three founders by role and background but gives no biographies for Sinha. AlleyWatch confirmed all three names and the 2024 founding year.

Customers and team

The company did not name customers. It said it signs new brands and retailers every week. It did not disclose its headcount, describing its team as a founding group of AI experts.

Employees were not disclosed, and the post gave no founding year; AlleyWatch's report is the source for 2024.

Neither the company's post nor AlleyWatch named a lead partner at either investor or gave quotes from them.

The pitch

Retail personalisation has traditionally depended on large amounts of history about each shopper. Malachyte's pitch is that live behaviour within a session can substitute for that history, which matters for new visitors and new products.
