What Mekr does
Mekr operates as an original design manufacturer, which designs and makes products that other brands sell under their own names. Its categories include home and kitchen appliances, personal care and car accessories. Inc42 listed electric kettles, hair dryers, body weighing scales, vacuum cleaners and tyre inflators.
The company describes itself as a digital manufacturing platform that covers concept, prototyping, proprietary tooling, sourcing, testing, certification and mass manufacturing. Capabilities include circuit board assembly, plastics, metal processing and in-house mould design. Products share core technologies such as brushless DC motor systems, precision gears, heating systems and load cells, according to Outlook Business.
Laffaz reported that Mekr runs a 50,000 sq ft plant in Kundli, Haryana, and is setting up a further unit of about 1 lakh sq ft that would take monthly capacity to nearly one million units. Inc42 placed the factory in Sonipat, Haryana, which is the district that contains Kundli.
Founders and customers
Anand Yadav and Gaurang Kuchhal founded Mekr. Inc42 said the company raised ₹5.8 crore from Better Capital, Titan Capital and 2AM VC in 2022.
Mekr says it works on more than 100 product variants and has partnerships with more than 40 brands, including Amazon Basics, Croma, Flipkart and Wipro. Outlook Business cited estimates that India's small home appliances market exceeds ₹40,000 crore, grows at 7% to 9% a year and remains heavily dependent on imports.
Kuchhal said in the announcement: "We are building Mekr to be India's leading ODM." Yadav said the company is being built in a technology- and process-led manner.
What the money is for
Mekr said the funds will go to research and development, product engineering, proprietary tooling and supplier localisation. Inc42 and Outlook Business added manufacturing automation and quality systems, and Outlook Business said a main goal is readiness for exports and global markets.
Vikas Verma, a partner at Avaana Capital, said Mekr's design-led approach addresses India's structural reliance on imported components for domestic appliances, according to Entrepreneur India.
Shiv Kapoor of Titan Capital Winners Fund, an early backer, said Mekr is positioned to become a critical pillar supporting India's ambitions, according to The Machine Maker. Laffaz reported that the company plans to scale to about one million units a month and to enter global markets, and said the China+1 shift in supply chains creates an opening for Indian original design manufacturers.
The sources did not report revenue or headcount.
